FTTA Interview Questions

Eastern Deanery 2011

These are the questions that I got asked at my interview:

Tell me about your cv: summarise your employment to date, why you did those jobs and how you have got to this point in your career

Explain your MSc project, what you looked at and what you found

Do you think the MSc is a worthwhile experience?

Do you think FTTA’s and Consultants should undergo formal teacher training?

What are the changes to the new MOrth curriculum? Especially the way in which registrars are to be assessed?

Tell us what you know about the planned changes to the structure of the NHS

How will these changes affect Orthodontic departments?

Clinical scenarios:

i.You send a patient for expose and bond of upper canines and extraction of the upper fours, and they come back to see you but the exposures haven’t been done. What do you do?

ii.The patient’s dad wants to complain; what is the complaints procedure?

iii.You see a patient post-op after orthognathic surgery but the surgeon has not carried out the moves you had planned. How do you deal with this?

iv.A patient is referred to the joint clinic who has had all their pre-surgical ortho done already in specialist practice. What do you do?

v.Do you think orthognathic patients should be treated in specialist practice and how would you deal with local specialist practitioners who wanted to carry out this treatment themselves?
