Remit of the Education Committee of the British Orthodontic Society (BOS)
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The Education Committee shall consider matters relating to BOS involvement in the education of dentists and dental care professionals in orthodontics. This shall include undergraduate training, postgraduate education of generalists, postgraduate training of specialists in orthodontics and the training of Dental Care Professionals (DCPs).
The Committee will primarily consider those matters outside the remit of the Postgraduate Deaneries, Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC), Royal Colleges and matters related to national policy setting.
The Committee will respond and report to the Board of Trustees of the British Orthodontic Society.
MEMBERSHIP
There will be six members, including the Chair of the committee. The chair of the committee shall be appointed by the BOS Board of Trustees from one of the members of the Committee. All members shall be nominated in consultation with the BOS Groups.At least two members of the Education Committee will be members of the BOS University Teachers Group (UTG). A representative of the SAC in Orthodontics (or appointed deputy), will also be a member of the Committee if not otherwise represented. Other representatives may be invited as required (e.g. postgraduate dental dean, Postgraduate Programme director, DCP). The BOS CEO will be ex-officio a member of the Committee.
The members of the Education Committee shall serve office for a term of three years and may be re-appointed for a further three years.
REMIT FOR OCT 2008-2009
In the first year of the committee (Oct 08-09), it is anticipated that the focus will be on development of the VLE: in particular updating the specialist registrar (SpR) modules and those modules for dentists with a special interest in Orthodontics (DwSI) modules and development of on-line CPD. The aims and objectives of the Committee will be updated on a regular basis.
