Clinical Standards Committee
David Morris (Chair) and Joy Hickman (Audit Co-ordinator) will complete their term of office at the end of 2010. There last meeting will be on November 9th. They will be replaced by Nikki Atack and Darren Johnston respectively. In addition, Nadine Houghton will replace Martyn Cobourne as the UTG representative from 2011 and Caroline McCarthy will replace Alison Downing as the COG representative from November 2010. Brenda Ng has taken over as the new Community rep. We will have a new TGG rep for 2011.
The aim is to reduce the current outstanding agenda items to an absolute minimum by the end of this year. Items currently under development include:-
Advice sheets –
1.“Writing practice leaflets” (Peter Brooke), “Mouthguards” (Harmeet Dhaliwal + Samer Salam) and “Auto-transplantation” (Mick Amos + David Morris) – awaiting initial formatting my Dodds and proof reading.
2.“Medical Emergencies”, “Inhalation/Ingestion of Foreign Bodies”, “Re-use of Orthodontic Materials” - all currently being finalised.
Patient Information Leaflets (PILs)–
1.Updated PILs on “Fixed Appliances”, “Removable Appliances” and “Orthodontic Treatment” – awaiting formatting/proof reading from printers.
2.New PILs: “Digit sucking”, “First Visit to the Orthognathic Clinic”, “Impacted Canines”, “Hypodontia”, “Protraction headgear” and “RME” all being finalised before the end of 2010.
BOS Clinical Effectiveness Bulletin (CEB) – 1st edition for 2010 imminent.
National Clinical Guidelines - all 4 national clinical orthodontic guidelines have been updated in the last 18 months and are on the RCS Eng website. Recent BDJ News article about this fact. Formal BDJ article on “Palatal Canines” planned for 2011 to educate GDPs.
Coordinated national audits on:
1.Mini-screw (TADs) national on-line audit (D. Bearn) - on going.
2.Mouthguard provision survey - recently sent out by e-mail to all COG/FTTA members.
3.Plans for an on-line PAR “refresher” programme - under development.
The 1998 BOS “Guide for Purchasers” pdf document – have finally received the updated OSG from Colin Wallis. DM to merge all the relevant sections prior to sending to Dodds for formatting + pictures need updating.
“Managing the Developing Occlusion - a practitioner’s guide” - no BOS Trustees advice yet re possible “translated” versions.
