
Bachelor in Dental Surgery BDS (King’s College Hospital School of Medicine and Dentistry) with Honours in 1990.
After qualification, Martyn undertook a number of junior hospital posts in Oral Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Paediatric Dentistry at Bristol Dental Hospital, Southmead General Hospital, The Royal Free Hospital and The Eastman Dental Hospital; obtaining a Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1993.
This was followed by three years as a Registrar in Orthodontics at the King’s Dental Institute and entry onto the General Dental Council Specialist List in Orthodontics in 1997.
A Medical Research Council Clinical Training Fellowship then allowed a period of basic research to be carried out in Paul Sharpe’s laboratory at Guy’s Dental Hospital, which led to the award of a PhD and accreditation as a Consultant in Orthodontics in 2003.

Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Orthodontics at the King’s Dental Institute. Martyn divides his time between leading his own research group and working as a Consultant Orthodontist.
Main Orthodontic Research Interests
Msrthyn's research interests focus primarily upon the molecular mechanisms underlying early craniofacial development, in particular the role of Hedgehog genes in the aetiology of congenital malformations affecting this region of the body.
