International Committee Report 2010
The 41st General Assembly Meeting of the European Federation of Orthodontic Specialists Associations (EFOSA) was held in Portoroz, Slovenia on Wednesday June 15th, 2010. The BOS was represented by Jonathan Sandler (who is the Chairman of their Nominations Committee) and Julian O’Neill (who is EFOSAs Webmaster). The meeting listened to an opening address from Anne Marie Kuijpers Jagtmann, on Postgraduate Orthodontic Education who explained the challenges we face in providing Academic Orthodontic teaching in the 21st Century. She felt the BOS Whiteboard initiative was wonderful and encouraged other countries to investigate using it .
Much of the meeting was again take up listening about the challenges faced by Orthodontists in Europe. In Holland half the specialists have already resigned from the list and massive fee cuts have been repeated as the Dutch government thinks orthodontists are vastly overpaid.. We explained once again the challenges in the UK with the contracting arrangements making it very difficult for young graduates to get rewarding positions. Again the smaller countries Croatia, Slovenia, Czech republic reported few problems compared with the larger countries e.g. Spain, Holland, Germany, Austria.
Julian O’Neill was elected Secretary of EFOSA for a four year period, which will take us nicely up to 2015.
The Federation of European Orthodontists (FEO) had their Board meeting in Thesaloniki on December 12th 2009, and the BOS was represented by Julian O’Neill (who is now the Secretary General).
