Scholarship and Grants Committee, incorporating BOSF
The S&G committee met in December 2009 and May 2010. The main business has been reviewing the process of the awards that are made and updating and harmonizing the format, regulations and publicity related to these. The committee has also spent time planning ahead for the revised website that is planned to ensure a clear relevant presence in the new BOS website

BOSF has now supported 22 projects and the judging for the 2010 awards is coming to a close. Researchers provide annual reports on their financial and research status, and their progress is monitored closely by the director of BOSF and our academic advisor, Professor Kevin O’Brien; we are able to confirm that all 8 of the ongoing projects are progressing. Raising money continues to be a focus of our attention. The number of pledges continues to drop, many with explanations from donors that they are reducing their charitable giving in this time of financial constraint. The profile of BOSF is being raised by appealing at specialist meetings, and also features in BOSF news. A silent charity auction is to be held at the BOC banquet this year, with lots being donated by members of the BOS themselves.
Finally, both David Bearn and Rye Mattick come to the ends of their terms of office as Chair of S&G and Vice-Chair / Director of BOSF respectively at the end of 2010, and replacements are being identified to commence in 2011.
