Eligibility
A BOS member, for a treatment wholly undertaken in a specialist practice environment.
Details
A prize sponsored by OrmcoEurope, awarded to a patient whose Orthodontic treatment has changed their lives.

£750 is awarded to the patient. An impressive sculpture and a bottle of champagne awarded to the orthodontist
Timescale
May 31st is the last date for submission. Entries will be judged in late June or early July and announcements in mid July.

Details
Awarded to the best research poster and the best audit poster displayed at the British Orthodontic Conference.
Value
£400 for each prize. A plaque is presented to each winner.

BOS Award to an Orthodontic Technician for Distinguished Service

Eligibility
Any orthodontic technician nominated by the OTA.
Details
This award is deigned to recognise a dental technician for an outstanding contribution.
Value
A certificate and bowl.
Timescale
One nomination will be sought annually from the OTA, along with a request for citation outlining the reasons for the nomination by March 31st. If the nomination is confirmed then the winner will be presented with the award at the BOC during the BOS prize presentation ceremony.

BOS Award to an Orthodontic Nurse for Distinguished Service

Eligibility
Any Orthodontic nurse nominated by the ONG.
Details
This award is designed to recognise an orthodontic nurse for an outstanding contribution.
Value
A certificate and bowl.
Timescale
One nomination will be sought annually from the ONG, along with a request for citation outlining the reasons for the nomination by March 31st. The name selected will be considered by the Scholarship & Grants Committee. If the nomination is confirmed then the winner will be presented with the award at the BOC during the BOS prize presentation ceremony. If no suitable individuals are identified in a particular year then no award will be made.

Awarded annually at BOC to the best reports published in the Clinical Effectiveness Bulletin (CEB) of the BOS in each year.

BOS TGG Distinguished Trainer Award

Eligibility
Any member of the society who is actively involved in the training of orthodontic specialists.
Details
An annual Award made by BOS on the recommendation of the Training Grades Group (TGG).
Value
A certificate and plaque.
Timescale
Nominations are made by the TGG in the spring each year and the recipient is announced at the BOC each year.
Regulations

BOS Student Technician Award

Eligibility
Open to all students undertaking a recognised first level dental technology course within the UK. It is also open to recently qualified technicians, qualified for less than two years at the time of the competition.
Details
The competition will consist of three main items:
a. a set piece of technical work to be completed on models provided
b. one free choice appliance on models on the applicant's choice
c. a short written piece of between 300 and 500 words on the criteria used in both the design and selection of materials for the free choice piece.
The judges are nominated by the OTA Council, to include the President.

Applications are invited in the October issue of the Dental Technician and Dental Laboratory magazine. Entries must be received no later than 14th february the following year.

Chapman Prize

Harold Chapman was a prominent dental surgeon, lecturer and founding staff member of the London Hospital Dental School. He was a life-long promoter of Orthodontics and an early Council member of the British Society for the Study of Orthodontics.

Details
Awarded to the best published article by a member of the BOS in a calendar year.

Timescale
Authors submit a paper for consideration for the prize by January 31st of the year after publication.

Geoffrey Fletcher Elective Scholarship

Sponsor

The late Geoffrey Fletcher was a senior lecturer for many years at the Eastman Dental Hospital with responsibility for training Post-Graduate orthodontic students. He has generously sponsored this prize in perpetuity.
Eligibility
Any member of the Training Grades Group.
Details
A travel scholarship awarded on the basis of a proposed elective visit overseas by a member of the Training Grades Group.

Houston Postgraduate Research Scholar, sponsored by TP Orthodontics

This award was established as a memorial to Professor WJ Houston following his tragic death in 1991.
Eligibility
Any member of the BOS on a three year orthodontic training programme, or who has completed a programme within the last 12 months.
Details
Awarded to best dissertation to have been submitted in the previous academic year. Electronic copy of dissertation to be submitted with application form. Two judges appointed by S&G Chairman to avoid conflict of interest.

Laurence Usiskin Student Elective Scholarship

An award in memory of Laurence Usiskin who was eminent in Orthodontics as a Senior Lecturer, examiner and Sub-Dean at Guys and St Thomas' Hospital.
Eligibility
Any undergraduate at a Dental School in the United Kingdom in their final two years of training.
Details
An award in memory of Laurence Usiskin to allow an undergraduate dental student to pursue an Elective in orthodontics. The chosen topic must be based on orthodontics or closely related. The elective to be undertaken the same calender year as submission.

Maurice Berman Prize for Clinical Excellence

Eligibility
A BOS member, with at least 10 years clinical experience since gaining specialist orthodontic qualification.
Entry
Submission of case records of three treated cases, including 1 year post-treatment records.
Entry details
Three case reports including full diagnostic records, treatment progress records, finish records and post-treatment records using the template provided (see link below).

The recipient of the award will be expected to make the case records available for publication in the Journal of Orthodontics, at the Editor's discretion, or other publication of the BOS and therefore should not have been previously published, and the necessary permission should have been sought and gained from the patient.

The original records submitted for the award will be displayed at the BOC and then retained in the BOS Museum.

Award Criteria
The award will be made on the basis of:
Case complexity on initial presentation, and casemix presented.
Quality of treatment provided and results obtained.
Quality of case presentation, including quality and format of records presented.

Closing date for submissions is 20 June 2012

M.Orth Cases Prize, sponsored by Dolphin Imaging and BOS Medal

Eligibility
Any BOS member who has taken the MOrth in the year preceding BOC.
Details
Prize awarded on the basis of two sets of clinical records for treated cases displayed at the British Orthodontic Conference. Cases are judged on difficulty, clinical management and presentation.

Practitioner Group Cases Prize, sponsored by Dental Directory

Eligibility
Any member of the Practiononer Group
Details
Awarded for clinical excellence to a member of the Practioner Group who presents the best treated case. Only one entry of one case per member per year is accepted. Cases must have been treated solely by the entrant either in hospital or practice. The judges will be one consultant orthodontist, one specialist practioner and one non-entering member of the Practioner Group.

Research Protocol Award, sponsored by JJ Thompson

Eligibility
Any member of the TGG of the BOS in the first 18 months of an orthodontic training programme.
Details
The award is based on the submission of a Masters (or equivalent) study protocol including a review of the relevent literature by a TGG member in the first 18 months of an orthodontic training programme.

BOS UTG Research Presentation Prize, sponsored by Orthocare

Eligibility
The prize is open to any member of the British Orthodontic Society who has successfully completed a UK University Master's programme or equivalent within 13 months of the Conference. A candidate is not allowed to enter the same project for both the UTG Research Prize and BOC Poster Prizes in the same year.
Details
Awarded to the best presentation at the University Teachers Group Research Session held annually at the British Orthodontic Conference of a project completed as part of a recent Master's course. The judges are arranged by the University Teachers Group.
