Constitution of the Scottish Consultant Orthodontists’ Group

Object : To further the development and efficiency of the Orthodontic Services in Scotland
Membership
Membership shall consist of:
a. Full Membership. Active membership shall be open to all persons holding a substantive or honorary contract as a Consultant Orthodontist or Associate Specialist, issued by a recognised health body or NHS Trust in Scotland and whose period of higher training has been approved by the relevant SAC or who are deemed by the Group to be trained to an equivalent level.
b. Associate Membership. Associate Membership shall be open to those holding a contract as a Fixed Term Training Appointee with a recognised health body in Scotland but without any voting rights.
c. Retired Membership. Retired Membership shall be open to members who reach retiral age whilst holding a Consultant contract with a recognised health body in Scotland but without any voting rights.
Officers
a. The Officers of the Group shall consist of the Chairman, the Chairman-Elect and the Immediate Past-Chairman, in succession, only two of whom will hold office at any one time and one of whom must always be the Chairman. The Chairman shall serve for a period of only two years and the Chairman-Elect and Immediate Past-Chairman shall serve for only one year each. Unless in exceptional circumstances the Chairman-Elect will transfer automatically to the Chairmanship and eventually the Chairman to the post of Immediate Past-Chairman, a succession spanning four years.
The Chairman-Elect shall be in post by the November of the appropriate year.
b. The Officers of the Group shall consist also of a Secretary/Treasurer who shall serve for a period of not more than three years.
Election
The election of office bearers will be held at the Annual General Meeting, usually the first meeting of the year.
Minutes
The Secretary will keep minutes of the meetings.
Quorum
A quorum shall be 25% of the membership.
Subscription
To be decided at the Annual General Meeting.
Meetings
The first meeting of the year shall be The Annual General Meeting. Ordinary and extra-ordinary meetings shall be held at other times, as required.
