Constitution of Scottish Orthodontic Specialist Group

1. The name of the group shall be the Scottish Orthodontic Specialists Group (SOSG).

2. The Group shall be a subgroup of the Orthodontic Specialists Group (OSG) of the British Orthodontic Society.

3. The membership shall consist of all members of the OSG resident or practising in Scotland.

4. The aim of the group is to foster the practice of orthodontics in Scotland.

5. To this end the the group will hold meetings where clinical and political topics affecting Scotland may be discussed, present a Scottish perspective at meetings of the OSG and BOS, and represent the membership in negotiations with official bodies in Scotland.

6. The group will be run by a committee consisting of a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary. These positions will be held for two years. The current holders of the positions will be eligible for re-election.

7. One of the committee, normally the Chairman, shall be available, if requested, to represent the group at meetings of OSG and the BOS Representative Body in order to provide a report on the situation in Scotland.

8. The committee will represent the group in any negotiations with the Scottish Executive Health Department and the Scottish Dental Practice Board and provide support to the BDA in Scotland through its General Dental Practice Committee.

9. Members of the group may be co-opted by the committee as necessary to assist with negotiations.

10. All financial matters shall be conducted in accordance with the standing orders of the BOS.

11. An AGM shall be held each year to elect officers, receive reports, approve accounts and agree subscriptions.

12. All members of the BOS shall be welcome to attend both clinical and political meetings.

13. The group may be wound up by a two thirds majority of members attending a meeting called for the purpose.

14. If no meetings are held for a period of two years, the group may be deemed to have lapsed. Any assets remaining on closure of the group shall revert to BOS general funds and no part may be distributed to members.
