TGG Surveys
In recent months the BOS Training Grades Group (TGG) has been conducting several nationwide surveys.
The first of these has been to determine the career plans of third year orthodontic specialist registrars. All third year registrars have been sent this survey which has been distributed via the network of local TGG reps. The aim is to collect information on the career choices of qualifying orthodontists and to determine the reasons for pursuing the specialist practice or FTTA route.
The second survey has been to evaluate the perceived challenges of orthodontic specialist training. All first year registrars have been sent the survey, again via the network of local TGG reps. The aim of this survey is to determine the challenges facing dentists when applying for orthodontic specialist training. The opinions of the trainees have also been sought on how to encourage more dentists to apply for orthodontic specialist training.
The third survey was used to investigate national variations in study leave entitlement and assess the impact of any changes to these agreements on training.
The final survey was designed to assess the clinical techniques they were taught as specialist registrars. The survey also asked whether there were any additional techniques that orthodontists would like to have received training in.Recently qualified orthodontists throughout the UK were identified from the BOS registers and from personal contacts.
The results of all the questionnaires will be presented at the BOS Conference in September and we therefore request to all those who have been approached, that they please fill in and return the surveys as soon as possible. For further information please do not hesitate to contact the committee members via tggsec@hotmail.com
