This year has been a busy one for the group. We have managed to achieve the following:
1.Introduced a TGG Trainer Award
This prize is intended to reward the efforts of a trainer in recognition of their commitment, time and effort towards the training of orthodontic trainees. Please see a separate hyperlink of the website for more details on this award.
2.A Guide for prospective applicants to Orthodontics
The TGG have put together a booklet to assist prospective applicants for Orthodontics. It is intended as a guide to assist applicants through aspects of the application process. It is hoped that the guide will be available as a down load from the BOS website.
3. TGG spring meeting and ISFE Day
Two successful meetings with over 100 delegates attending both the spring meeting on February 10th and the ISFE day on July 13th were held. For the first time, TGG were able to produce booklets for each event.
4.TGG Day for prospective applicants to orthodontics
TGG is organising a day entirely devoted to SHOs and other trainees interested in applying for orthodontics. It is intended as a fact finding mission with tips on applying as well as the personal experiences of current trainees are to be shared with the prospective applicants. This day is planned for Thursday November 12th at the BDA, head office in London. Please see a separate hyperlink for more details.
5.TGG surveys
We are in the process of running four surveys to our membership ranging from issues such as factors affecting prospective applicants to orthodontics to changing patterns of orthodontic treatment among recently qualified specialists.
6. International Trainee Rep
In recognition of the increased numbers of trainees from outside the UK and indeed outside the EU, the TGG have created a new position on the committee, that of International Trainee Rep. The role of this person on the committee will be to highlight issues and concerns affecting trainees from outside the UK.
7.Introduced a Split Session TGG Meeting in 2010
Once again in recognition of the increased numbers of international post graduates training alongside fellow Orthodontic SpRs the TGG have for the first time introduced a split session at next years meeting to be held on January 25th at the Eastman Dental Hospital, London. The programme includes lectures that will be of interest to both Home and international students in a split session in the middle of the day long programme.
