TGG introduces new award for trainers
Dear fellow trainee
I am writing to inform you of an exciting new initiative that the TGG are planning to introduce. We have all in our orthodontic training careers been involved with various trainers. Some have been good clinicians, some better at research, some better at teaching. However, for everyone one of us there is someone who stands out as having done that much more towards our training and for which we will not forget.Well, bearing this in mind, we on the TGG have given this some thought and now are very excited to inform you of a new initiative for an annual award to be given to an orthodontic trainer in recognition of their enthusiasm, commitment, time and effort towards the training of orthodontic trainees.
The award is open to any orthodontist involved in training and teaching orthodontic trainees in any unit in the UK. This may include academic university based tutors, Hospital consultants, staff grades, clinical assistants and part time specialist practice based demonstrators who may teach trainees in a Hospital environment.
The award is not designed for academic tutors who are non orthodontists such as statisticians or basic scientists supervising MSc projects. Although if the supervisor of a research project is an orthodontist then they too are eligible for the award.
The winner of this year’s TGG trainer Award is to be announced at the BOS conference along with all the other BOS awards. In addition, the winner will be invited to speak at the TGG spring meeting.
The TGG committee looks forward to receiving nominations for the award from trainees across the country. If there is any trainer you wish to give something back to for having the time, effort, patience, enthusiasm and every other great quality that those who choose to go into training have then this is your chance. The award is designed really for the unsung heros in perhaps small units who work tireless for all of us yet perhaps get over looked. However, equally if there is someone in an academic unit we would be equally happy to hear from you. To find out more information about the award please contact the TGG secretary on tggsec@hotmail.com or the scholarships and Grants committee of the BOS.
