Annual report
For the BOS AGM 2010
Annual UTG Report (for BOS AGM 2010)
The annual UTG session sponsored by OrthoCare took place at the BOS conference on Sunday 19th September 2010. A total of 25 applications were originally received by the closing date and following the initial judging process, 14 were selected for presentation at the conference. The quality of the research and standard of the presentations was extremely high and the judges had a very difficult task selecting the winners. However, they were able to come to a decision, with first prize being awarded to Omar Yaqoob for his RCT investigating the effectiveness of twin block appliances fabricated with and without a labial bow (supervised by Andrew DiBiase and Martyn Cobourne at East Kent Hospitals and King’s College London). Second prize went to Ektor Grammatopoulos for his investigation on the effects of wind instrument playing on the developing occlusion (supervised by Ash Dhopatkar at Birmingham University) and third prize was awarded to Girpreet Pye for her investigation determining the validity and reliability of a knowledge questionnaire relating to an orthognathic surgery DVD (supervised by Jayne Harrison at the University of Liverpool).
The UTG are extremely grateful to the conference organizing committee for placing the UTG session within the main programme of the conference. This gives the best possible exposure to new research being carried out by our trainees, which was reflected by an excellent attendance at this session. We are also grateful to our anonymous judges – they know who they are!
