The British Orthodontic Society is delighted to offer places on this one day pre-Conference course in Harrogate for all practitioners and their staff who use radiographs in clinical practice. Radiation protection training and a thorough knowledge of the legislation is now a mandatory requirement and by the end of the day you will able to:

  • Describe the nature and effects of ionising radiation

  • Define the sources of radiation dose to the UK population

  • Identify and quantify some of the radiation risks involved in dental radiology

  • Outline the principle components of the IRR1999 and 2000 legislation

  • Identify the impact of the legislation on clinical practice

  • List appropriate quality control measures

  • Identify considered “best practice”

  • List the operational management priorities for your practice


The Speakers

Richard De Cann

Dr Richard W DeCann MSc PhD HDCR TDCR SRR
Richard trained as a radiographer in the Royal Navy and his specialist areas are aspects of care and clinical practice.

Tim Reynolds

Mr Timothy J Reynolds HDCR TDCR
Tim is an authority on radiation protection and risk management.

Richard and Tim qualified as radiographers in the early 70s and they became lecturers in the early 80’s. When the School of Radiography at Keele University closed in 1997 Tim was the Principal for radiography undergraduate studies and Richard was the postgraduate Principal in therapeutic and diagnostic radiography. They are radiography consultants to the School of Postgraduate Medicine at Keele University and the Faculty of Health at Staffordshire University as well as being Senior Lecturers at the Birmingham University Dental School.

Both are experienced lecturers in dental radiology and have an extensive portfolio of education and training packages that includes a number of postgraduate update seminars for the dental team. In 2000 they formed the IMECS Partnership and have been directly involved in Dental Radiation and Dental Nurse Radiography training and associated updates for the past eight years.

They are well known for their ability to present this subject in an engaging manner which we are sure you will enjoy while you update yourself. Owing to the GDC requirements this is likely to be a very popular course and numbers are limited. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
