The BOS and UK Orthodontic Research

The role of the BOS

A key role of the BOS is to foster research in orthodontics and to disseminate the results, and the BOS is very active in this field. UK orthodontists have been at the forefront in demanding and generating the research evidence on which contemporary treatment techniques can properly be based.

The BOS funds research through the activities of the British Orthodontic Society Foundation. Many BOS members, particularly in the University Teachers Group are actively involved in research. Results of research work are to be found in the Journal of Orthodontics published by the Society. THe Society's meetings provide a forum to present and discuss research, and the Annual Conference has a session set aside purely for presentation on recent research by orthodontic trainees from the Training Grades Group, all of whom have to undertake a research project during during their period of training.
