Constitution of the Practitioner Group of the British Orthodontic Society

Title

The name of the group shall be ‘The Practitioner Group of the British Orthodontic Society’.

Objects of the Group

The object of the group will be to represent the interests of its members. It should involve the promotion of further education in the science and practice of orthodontics. It should also encourage an involvement in managed clinical networks. The Group will compile and maintain a list of members.

Powers

The Group is a constituent group of the British Orthodontic Society and the Group Constitution will not over-rule that of the British Orthodontic Society.

All correspondence will be conducted under the Group’s full title as a constituent group of the British Orthodontic Society. All correspondence with outside bodies will be copied to the Chairman and Executive Secretary of the British Orthodontic Society. All matters concerning negotiation will be referred to the Board of Trustees of the British Orthodontic Society.

Membership

Membership of the Practitioner Group will be open to all dentists engaged in the practice of orthodontics and who are not on the GDC specialist list in orthodontics. Membership is also open to any practitioner who was a member of the Practitioner Group prior to the introduction of the specialist list.

Officers

The Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer will be officers of the Group and will normally be elected for a three year term. The election will take place at the Annual General Meeting.

The British Orthodontic Society Chairman, Executive Secretary and Treasurer will be ex-officio members of the Group Committee.

Committee

The Committee will appoint a member of the Group (normally the Chairman) to be a Trustee of the British Orthodontic Society.

The Committee will appoint two members of the Group (always the Trustee and normally the Secretary) to be members of the Representative Board of the British Orthodontic Society.

Committee members shall represent the Group at the meetings required of their posts and submit a report to the Group at the Annual General Meeting on the work of their designated Committee.

Meetings

There will be an Annual General Meeting. The committee shall have the power to convene General Meetings of the Group.

Subscription and Finances

The subscription of a Group member is included in the annual subscription paid to the British Orthodontic Society.

The Group accounts will be held by the British Orthodontic Society. The Group Treasurer will be responsible for the overseeing of the financial transactions of the Group. They will present a report and statement concerning the financial status of the Group at the Annual General Meeting.
